Solar Street Lights Installed in Uganda
We know that solar street lights need to get the battery charged from solar during daytime, then the LED lamp can get power from the battery during night. We can set enough sizes of solar panels, suitable battery capacity for the solar street lights, so that they can get enough power to work.
Our standard solar powered street lights can work very well in many areas and countries on the earth. But for some places and areas, they have very big different solar energy in Summer and Winter. In Summer, very few rainy days, strong sunshine, and longer day time; but in Winter, many rainy or snowy days, with cloudy and weak sunshine, and longer night time.
In these places, it is ok for solar panels to get enough power in Summer, but to make sure the lamps work well in Winter, we have to set a very large solar panel and very big battery. This will cause very high cost to add extra solar panel and battery. Especially during Summer, the extra solar panel and battery is kind of waste.
Now we have released solar-electricity hybrid LED street light, that supports electricity and solar complementary function. It gets power from battery first when the battery have enough power, and turns to grid electricity if the battery lack of power. So the LED light can work with solar power in Summer, and go to grid electricity once solar energy is not enough in Winter.
To do solar/ electricity hybrid model, we need to add a power adapter to pretect the lighting system when connect with Electrical grid. The power adapter connect the controller and the electrical grid. The controller can detect the voltage of battery, when the voltage of battery lower than 10V, the controller will turn on the electrical grid connection and turn off the PV connection, and the LED light will get power from electrical grid. If the voltage of battery higher than 10V, the light will work with PV connection and turn off the electrical grid connection.
In this way, our Solar-electricity hybrid LED Street Lights can meet the lighting requirements, at the same time take good advantage of the solar energy, being more eco-friendly.
